Grand opening at PyCon3 Italia.

The first day at PyCon3 has been one of the most interesting days in a confernce i've ever standing at. At first Guido Van Rossum talking about Python since the early days, then Alex Martelli talked about abstraction, in Italian language.

Guido Van Rossum: Python 3000 retrospective

The way has been talked about python was really enjoyful. By its founder and BDFL, we all attended at a very calm and slow talking presentation. Seemed that Guido Van Rossum was even breathing ...incredible ;-)

I liked it a lot since the most important characteristic to me in a conference like PyCon3, is the way a talk can be exposed to the audience, so the audience could be relaxed and interested at the same time. We've all had the chance to see how the founder of the Python Language and Software Foundation, talks about this great OSS interpreter and enjoy a good and funny flow down to the Q&A section, when everyone was asked to be talking in Italian.

Alex Martelli: Lo Zen e l'arte della manuetnzione di astrazioni (Zen and the art of abstraction maintenance).

I whish i could be understanding deeper in practice and experience the relevant topic of this talk. Evevn i'm not so exeperienced the flow of the speech made me enjoying once again being at PyCon3. Alex Martelli has, IMHO, a great and wide vision of Computer Science, and his way of talking and exposing is always eclectic, giving a nice overview taht makes even the unexperienced like me getting a lot. The philosophical approach and point of view is nevere left behind any other. I think he gave has, today, a very good overview with good examples to understand, touching abstractions in the fields of application, filesystems, and other. Nice talk, nice conference.

What to say about this first day?
Well it's a shame if someone missed it when saying to be interested in FOSS, and programming. The Python Language itself deserves geat attention, the community is great and wide, not targeted. The PyCon Italia is growing at a fast rate, having an heterogeneous audience, giving year after year a good deeper attention.

....and tonight: altogether for a PyFiorentina ;-)
