I'm a little late getting the very good new, Django is now a software foundation. A good choice by the founder/developers as stated and announced in this scoop on Lawrence Journal.
More details here, as more are to come of course.
The Django software foundation, is a demonstration of how Django is near in spirit to the OpenSource Software development, usage and style, bringing the framework to be contributed by everyone in a wider sense, from people to organizations and most of all (at my eyes mainly) to be detached by Profit-policies or organizations focused only on market growth.
I think this choice meets and it's underlayed by, the Python spirit even more, and it's something that i would strongly appreciate, the foundation gives the assurance of a growth in more freedom and indepence for the framework but even for the contributors and users, normalizing the marketing effort without making it the centerpiece.
Django has been contributed by about 350 people and counts tens of thousands downloads giving the chance to project-develop-release valuable implementations. Working with the framework is a pleasure, and it's Python powered, that means the pythonic 'batteries included' filosophy brings everything from the Python universe to the developer making django a good choice for not only web.
If it has been a success until now, the foundation gives Django the assurance of a bright future. Just see Google with their AppEngine ...and there's Python too ;)
After this step the leaders plan to release Django 1.0 in september ...and that's another great new ;) |
